MUSEUM OF SÃO PAULO CITY – ORAL HISTORY

Documentary and oral history research
São Paulo, 2022

This is a documentary project that revisits and expands the Projeto História Oral (Oral History Project) originally conducted in the early 1990s by the Department of Historical Heritage of São Paulo. The initial recordings, captured on cassette tapes, documented memories of the Grevistas Queixadas (Queixadas Strikers) and the community surrounding the Fábrica de Cimento Portland de Perus (Portland Cement Factory of Perus).
Since 2019, the team from the Museu da Cidade de São Paulo (Museum of the City of São Paulo) has sought to revisit this pioneering oral history archive with fresh perspectives on the same territory. In 2022, in partnership with Estúdio CRUA, the museum returned to Perus to engage a new generation of workers, listening to their memories of labor, resistance, and community strengthening in Perus. The documentary Perus: Ontem e Hoje, a Periferia é o centro (Perus: Yesterday and Today, the Periphery is the Center) was screened within the community at the Centro de Memória dos Queixadas (Queixadas Memory Center).
